About The Peterborough Examiner

The Peterborough Examiner was founded in 1847 as the Peterborough Despatch, changing its name to The Examiner several years later. It wasn’t the community’s first newspaper, but is its longest-lasting and currently Peterborough’s only daily.

The Examiner has operated from several locations; after a few short stays at downtown addresses, the paper operated from a location on George Street before moving to the southeast corner of Hunter and Water streets in the 1930s. By the 1990s, the paper was operating from The Kingsway, and in recent years moved to an East City location.

Throughout its history, The Examiner has documented the history of the city and county through news, sports and arts coverage. Its award-winning newsroom continues to offer readers the latest breaking news via its website, which attracts about 2.4 million pageviews each month, and its print edition, published continuously for 173 years.

The Examiner is owned by Metroland Media, a subidiary of Torstar.
